Scratch Beginner Camp Online via Zoom

Scratch Beginner online coding camps are one-day three-hour Zoom sessions designed for students from 7 to 11 years old with no prior coding experience.

Campers will code two projects using Scratch, a free online educational platform developed by MIT. Students will be able to save and share their projects after the camp is over.

If your child enjoys our  Zoom camp – you are welcome to book your child into our weekly online Scratch Beginner course which starts next school term.

The main goal of this camp is to introduce new students to computer science and coding through game creation. Children will learn about loops, if statements, variables and how they all work together in a computer program.

Online Coding Camps Overview

Scratch Beginner Online coding camps are ideal for primary school students who want to try learning coding from home via Zoom. These camps are designed for students with no coding experience, and will suit any child from 7 years old who can confidently use a home computer. The camps are  taught by CODE4FUN instructors who are professional programmers or computer science students, and who teach our long term weekly coding programs during school terms. These camps are an ideal way to trial our Zoom classes and see if your child would enjoy learning coding via Zoom on a weekly basis. Each camp goes for 3 hours and consists of two different software projects which students code. Each camp could be booked alone or in conjunction with another camp.

Online Coding Requirements

CODE4FUN online coding camps are live video conferencing sessions run via Zoom in small groups with 7 students per one instructor. These camps allow real-time interaction between students and CODE4FUN instructors. In order to join our Zoom camp you will need a laptop or a desktop computer with a stable Internet connection. You child will need to open two windows side by side: Zoom window to see our instructor, and a web browser where your child will code their project in Scratch. Upon your registration, you will have access a User Guide with step-by-step instructions on how to prepare your child for their Zoom session. We ask that you help your child to join their session and supervise them for the first few minutes to make sure there is no tech issues on their end.

All CODE4FUN camps start at 9 am Sydney time (as CODE4FUIN team is based in Sydney). Hence, if you are joining our camps from other states or territories  – please check for any time difference. Your child will be able to communicate with a CODE4FUN instructor, ask any questions and receive ongoing support. Our instructors will go slowly through the content, ensuring each student is following along. Our teachers will also be able to access your child’s code remotely any time during the session to fix any bugs if need be. We encourage all students to be proactive and let our instructors know if they need any help.  Students will be using an online coding environment, with endless access to online study materials, allowing them to advance their coding skills outside their virtual classroom.

Scratch Intermediate Camp Online via Zoom

Scratch Intermediate online coding camps are one-day three-hour Zoom sessions. They are designed for students from 8 to 11 years old with some prior Scratch coding experience.

If your child enjoys our Intermediate camp and would like to join our regular weekly class – feel welcome to book your child in one of our Scratch Intermediate classes – they all start next term.

Each Intermediate camp consists of two software projects, which students code during the session.

The main goal of this camp is to introduce students to more sophisticated computer science and maths concepts. Campers will use X & Y coordinate system, angles and degrees, decimal and negative numbers, variables, loops and if statements to develop their projects and learn more about coding logic.

Intro to Java Camp Online via Zoom

Intro to Java online coding camps are one-day three-hour Zoom sessions.

They are ideal for students from 12 to 17 years old, who want to make their first steps into text-based coding. No prior experience is required.

If your child is younger than 12, but has about 2 years of coding experience with Scratch, they are also welcome to join.

Campers will code two digital art projects using Processing, which is a simplified version of the industry standard Java. Students will be able to save and share their projects after the camp is over.

If your child enjoys our Intro to Java Zoom camp – you are welcome to book your child into our online weekly Intro to Java course which starts in the beginning of the school term.

These camps cover key computer science concepts such as functions, loops and if statements; and how they are used in Java. Campers will use Openprocessing.org – a free online educational platform, where they will be able to save their projects, develop them further as well as create new projects and share their games and animations with their family and friends.

Each camp could be booked alone or in conjunction with another camp.
