Scratch | Beginner Stage

Course Description

Join our Scratch Beginner coding course for kids in Granville. The Scratch Beginner coding course consists of four levels (10 lessons per level) and 25 projects. The main goal of the course is to ensure students understand the fundamentals of coding and are able to create simple programs themselves. Students create video games such as PongBreakoutSlither.io, Fruit Ninja and develop simple animations and cartoons. Using block-based coding in Scratch developed by MIT Media Lab students learn the fundamentals of computer science concepts and coding terminology such as loopsconditionals and variables. Students are closely guided through the creation of the projects and are encouraged to work independently. Students use an online programming environment, with endless access to study materials, allowing them to advance their coding skills outside their classroom.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the Scratch Beginner stage, students should have a solid understanding of the following coding concepts: loops, conditionals and variables, and be able to code simple software projects by themselves. All students will undergo a formal assessment and parents will receive individual reports outlining the achievements and progress of their child.

Java | Pro Stage

Course Description

Join our Java Pro coding course for kids in Granville. The Java Pro course consists of four levels (10 lessons per level) and 22 projects. Students advance their skills in text-based coding using Processing, a visual-based implementation of Java. Students learn how to create procedural islands, 3D photos, physics engines and tic-tac-toe games through a series of learner projects where students become familiar with high-level concepts. Knowledge of concepts including pixel processing, procedural generation, and collision detection are synthesised in the 4 major projects at the end of each level. Students use an online programming environment with endless access to study materials, allowing them to advance their coding skills outside their classroom.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the Java Pro coding course, students will be highly confident with using a text-based coding environment to program projects themselves. They will have a strong and extensive knowledge of advanced programming concepts such as functions, abstraction, OOP, and proceduralism. This course will prepare students for our Intro to Python course. All students will undergo a formal assessment and parents will receive individual reports outlining the achievements and progress of their child.

Introduction to Python | Advanced Stage

Course Description

Join our Intro to Python coding course for kids in Granville. The Intro to Python coding course consists of four levels (10 lessons per level) and 20 software projects. Throughout this course students learn the basics of Python, a text-based industry standard language. Students develop a variety of logic based games, encryption algorithms, fractal patterns and mathematically inspired exercises using Trinket, an online programming environment. This course covers the key computer science concepts such as functionsloopsif statementsvariableslistsbooleansrecursive algorithms; and how they are used in Python. Students use an online programming environment with endless access to online study materials, allowing them to advance their coding skills outside their classroom.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the Intro to Python coding course students should have the ability to write simple programs in Python independently. They should be confident in Python’s syntax, and have a solid understanding of programming logic and key coding concepts such as functions, loops, if statements, variables, lists, booleans, recursive algorithms. All students will undergo a formal assessment and parents will receive individual reports outlining the achievements and progress of their child.

Unity | Pro Stage

Course Description

Join our Unity Pro online coding courses for kids in Granville. The Unity course consists of four levels (10 lessons per level) and around 16 projects. Students progress their knowledge of Unity with advanced projects such as Pacman, Laser Room, and Dragon Fire. Students create polished games with strong programming logic and bring the virtual world to life through augmented reality projects. Students will have endless access to online study materials, allowing them to advance their coding skills outside their classroom.

Course Outcomes

By the end of the Unity Pro coding course, students will possess a strong knowledge of Unity and C# and be confident in designing a game in Unity. This course aims to strengthen the students programming ability, level design skills, and experimental creativity. Students will have an extensive understanding of logic, data structures, events, and augmented reality concepts. All students will undergo a formal assessment and parents will receive individual reports outlining the achievements and progress of their child.

Our coding courses are designed for kids who like computer science and coding and all things digital. We focus on quality continued learning and have developed a unique learning pathway: Beginners > Intermediate Advanced > Pro. All coding classes are taught by CODE4FUN instructors who are professional programmers or computer science students. Our instructors follow the COOE4FUN curriculum that is designed to continually progress the knowledge and skills of our students and spans a four-year period. Each stage is one year long and consists of four levels of student progression.
